Our Mission
Preservation Delaware, Inc. is the statewide nonprofit organization
dedicated to the preservation of Delaware’s architectural heritage and historic settings
through education, public policy initiatives and technical assistance.
The MariAn Coffin
Gardens at Gibraltar
In the late 1990s, PDI protected the Gibraltar property in Wilmington, and restored the landmark Marian Coffin Gardens. They are now open to the public to enjoy.
Endangered
Properties
By raising awareness about endangered properties across the state, more properties may be saved.
Small Grants Program
Over 180 small grants have been awarded throughout the State since the Fund was established. Most grants awarded will be for a maximum of $1,000. In exceptional cases amounts up to $4,000 have been granted.
Delaware Preservation Fund
The Delaware Preservation Fund provides financial assistance to owners of historic properties. Assistance is usually in the form of mini-grants and rehabilitation loans. The Fund was created by Preservation Delaware and incorporated in December of 2000.
POLICY & ADVOCACY
Advocacy Work
Across the state, historic resources are sometimes lost when policies and ordinances do not honor our heritage and go farther to protect these resources. PDI's Advocacy & Policy committee strives to strngthen policies at the federal, state and local levels, and secure increased public funding.
Funding assistance
Preservation Fund
Primary to the founders’ original vision was the establishment of a preservation revolving fund that would allow PDI to intervene to save threatened properties or to provide funding assistance in the form of small grants or low interest loans for preservation-minded property owners.
